SortFix Search Engine News December 2009
Less than two weeks from Christmas, here are a few search updates you should know about.
Google Goggles - Google just launched this new search application for Android phones. This application enables you to search by taking a photo instead of a text- or voice-based search. Users can take pictures of business cards, locations (with GPS), or text-related items as books, from Android phones and then retrieve search results by them. It is a cool app. With time we’ll see how useful it will be. Watch this short video demonstration.
Real-Time Search – In the past month, Google, Yahoo!, and Microsoft’s bing added real-time searches, based mostly on Twitter tweets. All three search engines show results according to users’ most updated tweets. As we previously mentioned, Twitter is still growing, has more and more users and many more tweets. This search option, in my opinion, will appeal to social media enthusiasts, who want to see more user-related content than official site results. See for yourself how it looks on these search engines, and decide which works better for you.
Which browser is right for you? A wonderful post on Pandia search engine news reviews the five most popular browsers, gives a little help defining what a browser is, and offers tips for finding the right one for you. The article also hosts this great video. It shows that most people don’t even really know what a browser is. (Hint: It’s not a search engine!)
SortFix in 2010 – Well, it’s not really December 2009 news, more like January 2010 news, but we will let you in on a few secrets. We are now in the last stage of testing our new search engine design and interface. Here is a glimpse of how it will look …
